Wisdom...Get Some!

Several weeks ago I had the privilege of going back to speak at Lakewood for their Wednesday night Women's meeting. As I began to pray over what the Lord wanted me to share I kept hearing these words...Get Wisdom! I immediately thought Lord that is what I am trying to do get some wisdom about what to speak on but as the night and days went on I kept hearing that saying. I decided to look and see if there was a scripture that possibly said that..THERE IS. Proverbs 4:5-8 “Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will honor you.” (NLT). God continued to confirm to me that is what he wanted me to share and as I began to study about wisdom I realized that as women we tend to neglect this valuable gift that God has already provided for us!

Like me, I think most of us ask the Lord for wisdom when we have MAJOR decisions that need to be made. Decisions like a job change, buying a home, series problems with our children. However, that is not what the scripture says..it doesn't say get wisdom for big decisions it simply says GET WISDOM. As women we handle so many things throughout the day. Sometimes it can be completly overwhelming but God has provided us this gift called wisdom. Not just for big decisions but to help us daily! Our God is a detailed God. Just look at creation, our physical bodies, the birth of a child to see how much God is into details. Psalm 27:23 says "the Lord directs the steps of the Godly, he delights in EVERY detail of their life." God cares about every detail of your life and he has provided wisdom to help you navigate through!

Wisdom in Proverbs 4 is from the Greek word: Sophias – meaning enlightenment, insight not naturally attained or even special insight that produces solutions! Vines concordance defines wisdom as the knowledge and ability to make the right choices at the opportune time. I don't know about you but I could always use some insight that is not naturally attained, that produces solutions and gives me the ability to make the right choices at the opportune time!

The word (especially Proverbs) is FULL of benefits that come from getting wisdom. Too many for me to list here, but I encourage you to take the time and look them up. This study changed my life. I have become consumed with asking the Lord every morning to give me the wisdom I need for today. Wisdom in my schedule; wisdom in situations I am dealing with my children; wisdom in not missing opportunities you present me to bless or encourage others. That insight that is not naturally attained, the ability to make the right decision at the right time. God sent Jesus to the cross to give us wisdom through the Holy Spirit. It is a done deal..we just have to ask for it. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Jesus died so that we could have life and life more abundantly (John 10:10) and the gift of wisdom can help us live that abundant life! So I challenge you today...be purposeful in asking for wisdom. Ask God for wisdom daily, for everyday needs that you have, as well as the BIG decisions in your life. Then watch and trust God as he provides that for you. His word WILL hold true, he can not lie so if he says he will give you wisdom if you ask then he will!!
